February 27, 2012 Pre India Training 3

A post from Kate Webber one of our 2012 team members following a long training weekend:

I’m currently on my way home from London having had a great training weekend with the Chennai Challenge team for 2012. I don’t quite know how it started but we got to talking about broccoli, I think I might blame Rob. So, as I sit here, somewhere in between Banbury and Leamington, I’d like to tell you all some interesting facts about broccoli!

The word broccoli derives from the Italian word broccolo, and (amazingly) is originally from Italy.

Broccoli is high in vitamin C, as well as dietary fiber; it also contains multiple nutrients with anti-cancer properties [ Broccoli may reduce cancer risk! ( ].  (It also apparently makes you flatulent!)

Broccoli is a cool-weather crop that does poorly in hot summer weather. Broccoli grows best when exposed to an average daily temperature between 18 and 23 °C.

Having read this previous fact about broccoli, it might surprise you then to find out that the 2nd highest broccoli producing country in the world is India – !!

They also produce a lot of cauliflower, which is not a dead broccoli. #RIPbroccoli

Maybe that’s why we got round to talking about it?! I’m still not sure…

English: its broccoli

Just for the record this was a post from one of our team members. Broccoli became a theme over the training weekend. I’m sure you’ll hear more about the actual weekend shortly!
