This weekend coming is the first full weekend meeting for Chennai Challenge team 2011 and I, for one, can’t wait. Our friend from Chennai, Mr Jeeva Kumar, is now a Secretary at the YMCA Indian Student Hostel, and has organised for us to stay there as a team from Saturday to Sunday. As the name suggests, it is a hostel for Indian students studying in London, and as such it offers a genuine Indian experience.
This first weekend meeting is jam packed with planning and training that will cover topics from Indian Culture to Working with Children, from Fundraising to How to Blog, and of course a whole lot of team building. We will also be splitting into mentor groups to spend time evaluating our reasons for joining the team, and think about goals we want to set ourselves. At the end of the day on Saturday we will also send the team out in groups to complete a challenge, shall we call it London Challenge? It doesn’t have the alliterative ring of Chennai Challenge, but it’s an appropriate name for the game!
Food will also play a major role in the weekend, as we sample the home cooked Indian food that the YMCA offer. Can’t wait to get the team learning how to eat curry and rice with their hands!
I am quite excited to see the full Chennai Challenge 2011 team all congregated in one place at the same time. It is always an exciting moment, especially with this team being the biggest one yet. 20 team members, plus the leadership team of Rob, Cathy and myself. Who knew that in 4 years the project would grow so significantly?
Well, I’d best get some sleep. I will be needing to finish off my planning for the training next weekend tomorrow, and I don’t want to be groggy when Cathy and Rob call tomorrow to ask whether I’m ready!
See you soon chaps!
